Parents often struggle with ensuring their children’s safe and comfortable transition from home to school, especially when it comes to transportation. They face challenges in monitoring their child’s journey, coordinating with transportation services, and ensuring that their child's needs are met throughout the process. This lack of real-time information and control can lead to anxiety and uncertainty.
My role at Swvl
• Conducted discovery research in collaboration with the lead product manager.
• Designed the MVB application and dashboard for parents and school admins.
• Tested the MVB to ensure usability and effectiveness.
• Created and iterated on multiple design concepts.
• Assisted in the hiring process for the design team.
• Designed and developed numerous additional features for the app.
Objective
To design a mobile app for school education that empowers parents by providing them with the tools to track and manage their child’s daily commute. The app will offer features that allow parents to monitor their child’s journey in real time, receive notifications about their child’s status, and ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to provide a safe and comfortable experience for their child.
Impact
• Optimized Transportation Efficiency: Successfully transported 130 students daily across a 195 km² area using only 6 minibuses, optimizing routes with data-driven algorithms.
• Increased User Engagement: Achieved 65% user engagement via the Passenger App, providing real-time updates and personalized services to parents and students.
• Pilot Success: Led two successful pilot phases that demonstrated the technical feasibility of on-demand transit, reducing the potential need for additional vehicles.
• Improved Real-Time Tracking: Introduced real-time ride tracking, highly valued by service administrators, parents, and students, enhancing the overall user experience.
• Enhanced Decision-Making: Provided Essex County Council with detailed data and analytics, helping them make informed decisions and establish confidence in the technology.
